What a surprise that as an alternative to Hitman, which I couldn’t find a Mac demo version, we have World of Goo which I recently downloaded and played. First of all, big up for WoG producer, 2D BOY for making a game 4 all 3 most used systems (Windows, Mac OS and Linux). Though, Solaris users may be disappointed :)
As my previous non-on-line game was GTA San Andreas about a year ago, I didn’t know what to expect from the game with a childish look and screenshots on the producer website. After installing and launching the game we are taken to a totally different world – a Goo one :) It’s not a stupid gimmick, but a fact. We experience specific music, graphics, language, everything. From my point of view, the one of the best ideas was the form of the hints given to the player. Every game usually has a boring “help” button in the main menu. In WoG every level has a wooden sign which uses its own crazy language and it always ends its sentence with a signature “sign painter”. In the bonus level (World of Goo Corporation) we have another example of the language game the creators undertake with a player. When we reach few meters with our construction we can see a billboard with a slogan “It tastes so goooo-d”.
I’m in the first level of the last chapter (if there is only one planet), skipping only one level. The challenges are more and more complicated. I hope to pass everything soon. Wish me GOOd luck :)
